PRESS RELEASE: CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE NATIONAL DEFENCE FUND

In response to numerous queries from the general public, Government/Private organisations, as well as Non-resident Indians about the mode of contributions to the National Defence Fund, the Prime Minister’s Office today issued the following advisory:-

"Voluntary contributions to the National Defence Fund from individuals as well as organisations, are accepted in cash, cheques/drafts at the designated branches of the State Bank of India throughout the country. Cheques/drafts should be drawn in favour of "National Defence Fund". Donations can also be sent through money orders made through Post Offices for which no service charges are 1evied.

Donations abroad can be deposited with local Indian Missions/Embassies. Donations can also be sent to the Secretary, National Defence Fund Prime Minister’s Office, South Block, New Delhi-110011. All contributions to the National Defence Fund are exempted under section 80(G) of the Income Tax Act, 1961. The National Defence Fund is administered by an Executive Committee under the Chairmanship of the Prime Minister. The fund is primarily used for the welfare of Armed Forces personnel and their families."
