Applications for Filming Documentaries in India

Persons/Companies wishing to film documentaries in India are required to:

  • complete an Application Form (may be downloaded from this site - see link below)

  • complete an Undertaking (may be downloaded from this site - see link below)

  • return the completed Application Form and Undertaking to:

    with  nine copies of synopsis of your proposed film, details of itinerary, passport details of the crew (no photocopies of passports please) as also a complete list of equipment which you wish to take to India in connection with shooting of your proposed documentary

  • If you want to film in a National Park or other Wildlife area, certain Terms and Conditions for Filming imposed by the Ministry of Environment and Forests must be met. These requirements can be downloaded from this site - see link below

 2.       Once we have received all this information, the same will be forwarded to the concerned authorities in New Delhi for their clearance. Please allow us at least 4 weeks time for the clearance to be obtained. You may apply for visas only after the approval has been conveyed to you.

 3.       To expedite the processing, you can:

Although these electronic submissions will enable us to start processing the applications sooner, the electronic submissions must however be followed by the following:  

  • Written application form with signature
  • Undertaking in the prescribed form
  • Script/synopsis (9 copies)
  • Details of locations where documentary is proposed to be filmed
  • Details of team members with their passport and other particulars (no photocopies of passports please)
  • List of cinematic equipment to be temporarily imported into India
